The startup amsight from the field of additive manufacturing has been awarded the Gunnar Uldall Business Award 2024. The main prize of 10,000 euros underlines amsight’s innovative potential and pioneering developments in the optimization of 3D printing processes through advanced data management and quality assurance. The company emerged from the Fraunhofer IAPT. Startup Port supported the founders in their business development.
The world of additive manufacturing, better known as 3D printing, is undergoing a technological revolution, and right in the middle of it: amsight. The founding team brings an impressive combination of industry-specific knowledge and technological expertise to the table. From Tim Wischeropp’s more than ten years of experience in process optimization and Peter Lindecke’s specialization in digital quality assurance to Raoul Dittmann and Simon Schauß, who contribute their extensive experience in software development, the team covers all aspects of additive manufacturing. amsight, however, does not take care of the manufacturing itself, but provides software to optimize it. The founders’ vision is to use data-based knowledge to make additive manufacturing just as reliable and economical as conventional manufacturing processes. This approach is based on the insight that effective data management and analysis are key components for optimizing manufacturing processes.
Awarded the Gunnar Uldall Business Prize
The start-up has received several awards for its idea this year: First at the Hamburg Innovation Awards and the GründerGeist, and now the mega success at the Gunnar Uldall Business Award, where amsight received the main prize and 10,000 euros! Second and third place went to the start-ups Bridge&Tunnel and Buildlinx. The €15,000 prize (1st prize: €10,000 / 2nd prize: €3,000 / 3rd prize: €2,000) is awarded every year to company founders from the Hamburg metropolitan region who can present convincing arguments for sustainable and innovative business development. The award ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Hapag-Lloyd shipping company on Ballindamm. Around 20 had applied for the sixth Gunnar Uldall Business Award, five were shortlisted and were allowed to pitch in front of a high-caliber board of trustees. This selected the top 3, which were allowed to present themselves to the audience once again.
The path to foundation
amsight GmbH was officially founded in August 2023. The start-up support provided by the Startup Port helped, among other things, with the successful application for EXIST funding, which enabled the founders to turn their vision into reality. The Startup Port is of course once again on hand to advise the founders on the follow-up financing they are seeking.
The challenges along the way were manifold, from overcoming bureaucratic hurdles to adapting the software to different data formats and infrastructures in the companies. However, previous work and contacts at the Fraunhofer IAPT and support from the Startup Port have enabled a network to be established and the first pilot customers to be acquired.
Visions of the future
Looking ahead, amsight plans to further refine its technology and open up new markets. The planned further integration of AI and machine learning into data analysis promises to further increase the efficiency and effectiveness of 3D printing processes. This would not only reduce production costs, but also improve the sustainability and recycling rate of materials.
A prize that is more than deserved
By winning the Gunnar Uldall Business Award 2024, amsight confirms its innovative status in the field of additive manufacturing. Recognition through such an award reflects amsight’s great potential to revolutionize industrial production in the long term and raise efficiency in manufacturing to a new level.
