The startup traceless materials from the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH) receives funding of 2.42 million euros from the European Innovation Council (EIC). With its innovative, sustainable material, the company mentored by beyourpilot and Startup Dock offers a solution to global plastic pollution.
The EIC Accelerator supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing and scaling major innovations. The startup traceless materials is one of 65 companies out of 4,000 applicants to receive this funding. In its citation, the EIC evaluation committee praised traceless’ invention:
“The proposed innovation represents a real breakthrough in the field of plastic materials, combining a circular and sustainable approach based on agricultural residues, innovative transformation steps and final material properties that go beyond the current state of the art and offer a fully biodegradable solution for many sectors. The combination of biodegradability with specific thermomechanical, barrier and compatibility properties can open up important market opportunities, especially for the packaging industry.”
Just over a year after its foundation, this support enables the team around co-founders Dr Anne Lamp (CEO) and Johanna Baare (COO) to bring its materials to market more quickly. traceless has developed an alternative to plastics and bioplastics that is completely degradable in the environment. Based on natural polymers from agribusiness residues, the startup produces a drop-in solution for plastic producers who can use it to make films, packaging or disposable cutlery, for example. Used in products that can easily end up in the environment, the company thus contributes to global plastic reduction.
The EIC funding will primarily be used to further accelerate the expansion of the circular bioeconomy start-up by building a demonstration plant that will enable its first market entry. Dr Anne Lamp is the inventor of the traceless technology and emphasises the importance of this funding for the startup:
“The support from the EIC Accelerator is a clear recognition of the innovative nature and high potential of our solution and the great work our team has done over the past year. The funding will enable us to accelerate our development even further and bring traceless to market quickly – so we can do our bit to solve global plastic pollution!”
The start-up is a spin-off from the Technical University of Hamburg. It is accompanied and supported by the start-up centre Startup Dock and beyourpilot, among others. The responsible start-up advisor Dr Andrea Otto is delighted:
“Traceless – an outstanding innovation and a great team with clear vision, determination and competence! We are very happy about their support through the EIC Accelerator – this funding will exceptionally strengthen traceless’ scaling and faster penetration into promising markets.”
We can only agree with this: beyourpilot congratulates the entire team as well as everyone involved and wishes them continued success in getting off the ground!
