The new “PROFI Transfer Plus” funding programme, which is supported by the City of Hamburg and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), promises a further innovation offensive: With an impressive budget of over twelve million euros, research and development projects in key areas such as climate and energy, mobility, health, data science and digitalisation are to be driven forward over the next three years.
In the press release, the Senator for Economics and Innovation emphasised the importance of the PROFI Transfer Plus funding programme, which is specifically designed to enable small and medium-sized enterprises to develop new product and process innovations. Melanie Leonhard explained that cooperation with universities and research institutions is particularly valuable in this context. Through collaborative projects, existing knowledge can be effectively put into practice and new technologies, products and processes can be successfully integrated into companies. The Startup Port is seen as part of this ecosystem. Leonhard was optimistic that the programme would continue to make an important contribution to the creation of future technologies “made in Hamburg” in the future.
In the PROFI Transfer Plus programme, individual cooperation projects can be funded with a grant of up to 2 million euros. Thematically, the focus is on the future fields of health, climate and energy, mobility, material sciences and new materials as well as data science and digitalisation. In particular, research and development collaborations between several companies as well as between companies and universities or research institutions are to be supported. Small and medium-sized enterprises are a particular focus.
Ralf Sommer, Chairman of the Management Board of Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank, referred to the success of the PROFI Transfer Plus funding programme, which can be seen in the numerous innovative projects of the past funding period: from life science and artificial intelligence to high-performance lasers, a wide range of topics was represented, which contributed to strengthening Hamburg as a location for business and innovation. The company is looking forward to continuing the programme’s success story with new projects.
The PROFI Transfer Plus funding programme builds on the successful work of the previous ERDF funding period: Between 2014 and 2020, 20 promising research and development projects from Hamburg companies and cooperating universities and research institutions have already been funded, including companies such as Galab, nachtblau, Class 5 or WPS and universities or research institutions such as the University of Hamburg, TU Hamburg, HAW, DESY or HITeC.
