ISM GmbH, a spin-off from the Marine Engineering working group at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), is being supported in its business development by the Startup Port @TUHH and recently received funding as part of the InnoFounder programme to enable the further development of its software for the data-based optimisation of maritime energy systems.
The startup ISM was founded in June 2023 with the support of Startup Port’s start-up consultancy, which has been assisting the team with business development ever since. The founding team consists of Thilo Jürgens-Tatje and Prof Dr Friedrich Wirz, who have in-depth knowledge of thermodynamics, hybrid drives and eFuels. The team is complemented by Matthias Kaul, a specialist in optimisation and software development.
Important support from InnoFounder
‘Thanks to the extensive support of start-up consultant Dr Sandra-Luisa Moschner and start-up consultant Felix Krieg from Startup Port, we have now also successfully qualified for the InnoFounder funding programme,’ reports Thilo Jürgens-Tatje with satisfaction. The programme, an initiative of IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH, is designed to support innovative and sustainability-oriented start-ups. It offers start-up teams and individual founders a monthly, personal subsidy of 2,500 euros per person working full-time. The grant covers both living costs and other expenses directly related to the start-up project. Teams can receive up to 75,000 euros and individual founders up to 45,000 euros over a maximum period of 18 months.
Importance of funding for ISM GmbH
‘Thanks to the funding commitment of 65,000 euros, we can significantly develop our software for the data-based design and optimisation of maritime energy systems,’ explains Thilo. This financial support is essential in order to implement technologically advanced and environmentally friendly solutions. ISM GmbH works closely with ship operators and shipyards to develop customised concepts for individual ships and entire fleets. The focus here is on the goal of sustainability through the use of innovative technologies that optimise the use of resources and minimise operating costs and environmental impact.
Outlook
With the support of Startup Port and the financial backing of the InnoFounder programme, ISM GmbH is well positioned to achieve its goals in the maritime industry and continue to grow. The combination of technical expertise, financial support and strategic partnership can enable the company to take a leading role in the development of sustainable maritime technologies.
