An advance publication of the German Startup Monitor 2024 confirms that Bündnis 90/Die Grünen continue to be the favoured political force among startup founders in Germany. Although they have lost 4.9 percentage points compared to the previous year, they still lead with 41.3% of the vote.
There was a notable rise for the pro-European party Volt, which is now even ahead of the SPD with 6.7% and 5.5%. The CDU/CSU improved and now stands at 15.8%, while the FDP remains the second strongest force with 21.4% despite a drop of 5 percentage points.
In contrast to the broader social trend in Germany, extreme parties such as the AfD or the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance are hardly popular among startup founders. Christoph Stresing, Managing Director of the Startup Association, emphasises the importance of openness for genuine innovation and points out that startups, as drivers of economic and social change, focus on future topics. He is in favour of an entrepreneurial awakening in Germany, which should include faster recruitment of international talent in addition to financing options.
1828 founders and managing directors of startups took part in the survey, which was conducted from 6 June to 12 August 2024. The full results of the German Startup Monitor 2024 will be published on 29 September 2024.
