Since its opening in November 2022, the Makerspace at the DESY Innovation Factory has expanded its capacities: it is now open to a broad user community from Hamburg’s innovation ecosystem to develop new ideas or build prototypes. DESY is part of the Startup Port network of the Hamburg metropolitan region.
The Makerspace at the DESY Innovation Factory provides access to experimental space for 3D printing, mechanics and electronics to further develop innovative product ideas, build prototypes or complete proof-of-concepts. Co-working and office spaces round off the offer.
The Makerspace is run by Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld. Membership is available from 80 euros per month plus a flat rate for consumables. The Makerspace is located in the DESY Innovation Village on the campus and is thus another contact point for innovators in Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld. It is open to all potential users with ideas or projects in the field of deep tech.
The Makerspace is a so-called test bed for the DESY Innovation Factory, which is scheduled to open its doors in 2026. In addition to office and event space, the integrated technology and start-up centre will offer a customised, highly standardised laboratory infrastructure for applied research projects, pre-foundations, start-ups and established companies from the fields of life sciences and new materials. The DESY Innovation Factory is funded by the Federal Government and the City of Hamburg.
