As part of our series on Startup Port expertise, we introduce experts who can provide specific advice to those interested in starting a business as well as those who are starting up. In this issue we report on Theresa Oberstrass, she is a passionate advocate of innovation and creative collaboration. With her extensive expertise in design thinking, innovation and project management, she co-founded the company WeCocreate. In her role at WeCocreate, Theresa works closely with teams to realise their full potential for creativity, innovation and collaboration.
Theresa’s first encounter with Startup Port was not in her role as a coach, but as a participant: as a co-founder of a biotech company called Mycolutions, she won the Lünale, a start-up award in Lüneburg. At this event, Theresa met the project manager of Startup Port, Tatjana Timoschenko, who recommended the EXIST start-up scholarship to her. Shortly before, Theresa and her team had given up on the idea, but Tatjana convinced them of the possibility of a successful application. This meeting between the two women resulted in a conversation about coaching, which led to Theresa being hired as a coach for a workshop at the Hamburg Innovation Summit 2022 in the startup area of beyourpilot (since July 2023 under the brand Startup Port).
Theresa’s expertise is in coaching team and innovation processes. She focuses on areas where several people pursue a common goal. The coach helps teams define their vision, build effective collaboration, improve communication and create a comfortable working environment. Her background in design thinking gives her strong skills in prototyping and problem solving. Theresa is well versed in team and organisational development with a particular focus on new work as well as agile methodologies.
Theresa has two quite different start-up experiences herself: In addition to her work as a coach, she also gained first-hand experience as an entrepreneur. At the start-up Mycolutions, she was significantly involved in the strategic planning of the company as Business Development Manager from the very beginning. In the meantime, she has left the company to focus completely on her passion, coaching: She founded a civil law company for WeCocreate. In this way, she has once gone through small business in terms of coaching and once experienced the biotech start-up with all its funding opportunities, etc.
Theresa’s motivation to practice coaching stems from her deep appreciation for collaborative creativity and teamwork. When working together, all team members should be able to realise their full potential. Their goal is to create an environment where creativity thrives and people enjoy working together. Instead of a culture of individualism, Theresa advocates a collaborative approach that promotes both personal and collective growth.
