The start-up amsight is digitalising data management and quality assurance in industrial 3D printing. The company has now launched the pilot programme for its innovative quality and data management software for additive manufacturing. For the first time, the software enables simple and holistic optimisation of the 3D printing process as well as upstream and downstream processes. amsight is a spin-off of the Fraunhofer IAPT. Startup Port supported the founders with business development.
After months of intensive development work, amsight GmbH announces the implementation of its innovative quality and data management software in an exclusive pilot programme. The software promises to significantly reduce the costs and effort involved in quality and data management as well as process optimisation in 3D printing. The unique feature of the new software is that it maps the entire 3D printing process chain, from powder handling and mixing to the finished component, in a digital twin. Based on this data, holistic process optimisation is possible for the first time in a simple way, which also takes into account the interactions between the individual process steps. The effectiveness of the approach has already been successfully demonstrated in a joint case study with the company Kegelmann Technik and the Fraunhofer IAPT.
The amsight software improves additive manufacturing processes through three core functions: Automated data management along the entire production chain, storage of relevant quality information in the fully comprehensive digital twin and comprehensive process chain optimisation in terms of cost savings as well as quality improvement.
This integration enables seamless documentation from powder handling to the finished component, ensures detailed analysis capability through accurate images of real processes and end products, and promotes efficiency gains by minimising material waste while simultaneously improving the product.
“We will continue to develop our software with the aim of offering the leading solution in the field of quality and data management in industrial 3D printing. The launch of the pilot programme represents an important milestone in this respect.”
Dr Tim Wischeropp, Co-Founder and CEO of amsight GmbH
The software can be used in production for quality-assured manufacturing as well as for process and material development. The participants in the pilot programme are renowned names in the industry, including Kegelmann Technik GmbH and INPECA GmbH, as well as Fraunhofer IAPT, Fraunhofer IPA and Fraunhofer IPT, which use the software in various research projects to carry out analyses for better process understanding.
amsight GmbH was officially founded in August 2023. The challenges along the way were manifold, from overcoming bureaucratic hurdles to adapting the software to different data formats and infrastructures in the companies. However, the previous work and contacts at the Fraunhofer IAPT and the support from the Startup Port enabled a network to be established and the first pilot customers to be acquired. The start-up support provided by the Startup Port helped, among other things, with the successful application for EXIST funding, which enabled the founders to turn their vision into reality.
