The Prototype Fund, an initiative of the Open Knowledge Foundation Deutschland e.V., finances innovative software projects that create added value for society. With up to 158,000 euros in support, you can develop your ideas from concept to market-ready prototype. This funding is made possible by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and aims to shape digital progress through open source solutions.
More support in the new round
In 2025, the Prototype Fund has some exciting new features in store: Increased funding amounts, the option to apply in English and cross-team collaboration in the EU are just some of the highlights. In addition, the fund now offers follow-up funding that can bring your prototype to market maturity.
Low hurdles, great opportunities
The conditions of participation remain uncomplicated as usual. We are looking for individuals or teams of up to four people who have innovative software ideas and would like to publish them under an open source license. Large organizations are excluded, which opens the door to small teams and individualists.
