\u00a0The beyourpilot alliance partner DESY recently inaugurated the Makerspace of its Innovation Factory: the space is open to people interested in founding a company, start-ups and young companies from the deep-tech sector that correspond to the research fields of the DESY Campus.<\/p>\n
With the Makerspace, the DESY Innovation Factory is creating an initial offering for application-oriented, pre-foundation and cooperation projects as well as start-ups. The experimental spaces offer a free space on the DESY campus that complements the classic research infrastructure and gives users the opportunity to explore new ideas or build prototypes.<\/p>\n
The DESY Innovation Factory is the integrated technology and start-up centre that is being built on the DESY campus. At its core, the DESY Innovation Factory is intended to accelerate pathways of innovative deep-tech products and transfer projects from basic research to application. The DESY Innovation Factory will act as a hub between the scientific operations on campus, applied research, start-ups and established companies. From 2026, cooperation projects, pre-start-up projects and start-ups in the life sciences and new materials sectors will find space and a suitable laboratory infrastructure at the DESY Innovation Factory.<\/p>\n
The Makerspace serves as an initial testing ground for the DESY Innovation Factory, where these objectives are already being put into practice on a smaller scale. “DESY has the social mandate to shape innovation and the transfer of knowledge from this very field in such a way that it can be applied for the benefit of all. For this reason, it is our goal to offer a holistic solution ecosystem. The Makerspace, as the first facility of the DESY Innovation Factory, represents an important milestone in this regard,” says Arik Willner, DESY’s Chief Technology Officer, explaining the significance of the opening of the Makerspace.<\/p>\n
The Makerspace of the DESY Innovation Factory is operated by Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld, the innovation centre of DESY, the university and the city of Hamburg. It is open to people interested in founding a company, start-ups and young companies from the deep-tech sector that correspond to the research fields of the campus. The offer includes equipped workspaces for polymer 3D printing, mechanics and electronics as well as co-working office space.
